Bringing a stronger business framework to course design, co-designed the first peer evaluation process at a top tier U.S. MBA program, completed the first competitive benchmarking process with leadership programs at other top MBA universities, designed the experiential sessions required of all 800 MBAs on global leadership, vision, feedback, team formation, and political savvy, helped oversee the formation and operation of 144 MBA project teams annually and associated team consultants. Build and direct the firm’s first strategic human resource planning function and create the organizational strategies to change the culture of one of the world’s largest professional service firms for more competitive environments.

Contributions:
  • Developed firm’s first ever leadership criteria required to become a member of the firm’s top governance body.
  • Designed an innovative approach (S.M.A.R.T) to turn the existing strategy development process into the core learning engine for the firm and begin the movement toward a true learning organization.
  • Created the firm’s first systematic succession planning process and linked it to strategy formation.
  • Designed the firm’s first organizational survey in its history which was the only one of its kind in the industry.
  • Built a grass roots system which tripled local work place innovations (publicly cited by the Conference Board and published as a leading edge business practice in Diversity in the Workplace by Guilford Publications.)
  • Redesigned the firm’s educational approach and set the foundation for Coopers & Lybrand University.
  • Originated the firm’s first 360 degree performance appraisal system.
  • Initiated the first business process reengineering approach for the firm’s human resource function.
  • Built the first firm-wide approach for fast track development of high potential MBAs.
  • Served as executive coach to several members of senior management as well as selected high potential individuals

Director of Organization Planning and Leadership Development
Realign and direct the organization planning and executive development functions of a Fortune top 20 company.

Contributions:
  • Designed a unique corporate-wide restructuring approach that realigned staff functions with strategic business directions and reduced corporate overhead costs by 25% (approach was published by O.D. Practitioner and used by General Motors’ BOC division).
  • Built the company’s first executive development program for vice presidents and above.
  • Originated a new career pathing approach for the company (published by Human Resource Planning Journal and judged by the Journal to be published again in its book of best practices shaping the 1990s).
  • Developed the company’s first corporate university based on ‘live’ business tasks, rather than on academic topics.
  • Designed, participated, and facilitated executive task forces on cultural change, reward structures, and commitment.
  • Created the first self managed conference for the top 50 executives which set the leadership agenda for the decade.
  • Served as a permanent member on the company’s internal information technology board.
  • Pioneered a flexible productivity improvement approach (published by the industry’s Encyclopedia of Chemical Processing and Design).
  • Formulated a simplified corporate-wide performance management system (published by the industry’s Hydrocarbon Processing Magazine and adopted by a division of SmithKline Beecham Inc. and the city of San Diego

Dr. DeLuca has recently received an award from the Academy of Management for serving as Division Reviewer of the Entrepreneurship Division . He has alsobeen selected once again by Congress as a 2005 Businessman of the Year.

Dr. DeLuca was selected as a 2004 Businessman of the Year for his outstanding service to the community.
